Immersive Training with AWS enhanced AI
NIAXO is proud to be an AWS partner incorporating Amazon Web Services technologies across every spectrum of our work. A prime example of this commitment is a recent collaborative innovation project with DASA, in which Amazon Web Services played a pivotal role in creating an advanced conversational AI system to enhance military training experiences.

AWS at the Heart of Our Architecture

Our solution is architected primarily around AWS to ensure seamless scalability, robust security, and rapid responsiveness. By deploying on Amazon EC2 instances within a private VPC, we retain full control over computational resources while preserving data integrity. AWS API Gateway acts as the conduit through which third-party applications interface with our Large Language Model (LLM), tightly regulated by strict access controls. Logs are collected and stored securely in Amazon S3, then analysed via AWS Athena—providing a comprehensive, real-time view of system performance and security posture. This synergy of AWS services underpins our entire platform, enabling a fluid and powerful AI experience.

Situation:

We partnered with a fellow British SME to create a ‘bot’ that would serve as a simulated villager, requiring assistance after a hypothetical incident. Our task was to build the ‘brain’ behind this bot—handling natural language responses, emotional tone, and real-time assessment of soldier performance.

Task:

Two significant challenges emerged. First, there was noticeable latency during interactions, threatening the realism of the training scenario. Second, the bot’s responses initially felt robotic, failing to convey the nuanced and authentic emotions required.
Action: Leveraging AWS’s powerful compute and data services, our team optimised the entire pipeline. By refining the speech-to-text and text-to-speech processes within AWS, we eliminated unnecessary overhead. Additionally, we harnessed AWS’s compute elasticity to deliver near-instantaneous responses, enhancing immersion. To address the ‘wooden’ nature of dialogue, we employed advanced prompt engineering and contextual data feeds, ensuring the AI had full awareness of the conversation’s history and the specific user context. This richer data set, combined with AWS’s performance capabilities, empowered the bot to respond more naturally and consistently.

Result:

The outcome was a highly responsive and realistic conversational agent. Demoed at a military base in front of both military personnel and civil servants, the system showcased minimal latency and lifelike interactivity. The conversations it facilitated prompted fresh discussions about the broader value of AWS-powered, AI-driven solutions in military and enterprise training environments.
If you’re business could benefit from secure, scalable, and innovative training simulations, we’d love to hear from you.
